Sundry ramblings from me on topics relating to this website, web design and Joomla!
Learning a new piece of software can often be as challenging as climbing a mountain. In this case it is an aptly named product called K2 from JoomlaWorks.
Wanting to add extra functionality to my websites, I researched possible solutions to enable me to include items such as: -
- Comments
- Rating Systems
- Image Galleries
- Product Catalogues
- Blogs - including Tag Clouds
- Nested Categories
One of the constant battles when designing websites is to balance one's desire to use the latest website technologies against the user's possibly out-dated browser technology.
Internet Explorer is a prime example of this. Within many corporate environments, Windows XP is still the predominant operating system, and within that, Internet Explorer 6 can still be found as the prescribed Internet browser. This is despite the fact that Microsoft, along with many website designers, has discontinued support for it.
We have recently migrated this website to K2 (http://www.getk2.org), the CCK from JoomlaWorks (http://www.joomlaworks.gr). As always, navigating between articles, modules and K2 items become tedious using the menu's, so I wrote a "quickicon" to get me to the K2 Dashboard.
Keeping with the spirit of Joomla, as an Open Source community, we have made this module freely available (registration is required).
For anyone designing websites using products available in the Open Source community, there is an ongoing battle to stay ahead of the technological changes that occur on a regular basis. This means that what was "cutting-edge" 6 months ago, is now "old hat".
Keeping in line with recent product releases, we are currently planning the introduction of some new packages aimed at the small to medium business market.
We believe that these packages will include a good balance of features, functionality, style and cost.JS Jobs is a Joomla component designed for a recruitment businesses website. In order to satisfy a client requirement, we developed an add-on module for JS Jobs to display the latest jobs uploaded by clients.
Keeping with the spirit of Joomla, as an Open Source community, we have made this module freely available (registration is required).
These days, in order to protect your business interests, you may need to register more than one domain name. These could include addresses ending in .com.au, as well as .com. Maybe you just want to secure domain names that are complimentary to your core business.
Or is expansion on the horizon, and you need to ensure that your intended business name will be able to have an associated website.
