What does it cost?

Written by Mark Matheson

That's a bit like asking how long is a piece of string?

Without knowing what someone is expecting from a website, it is very difficult to put a cost on designing a website.  Websites can range in cost from $500 - $100,000.

In order for us to be able to provide you with a reasonable cost range, we need our Website Planning Document to be completed.  This Website Planning section on Wikipedia provides a good brief on what you should consider when planning a website.

Based on the information provided, we will then provide a quote supported by a Website Design Document and Website Flowchart Document.

Are hosting services available with the package?

Written by Mark Matheson

What about after sales support?

Written by Mark Matheson

Of course, we will not leave you hanging once your site is up and running. As part of your package, you will have a dedicated private forum for your website, through which you can lodge support issues, enhancement requests or any other question about your site.

Sometimes matching websites to an existing logo, font style or colour can be the most difficult part of designing a website.  If possible, consultation with us prior to settling on logos, font or colours will help eliminate disappointment when a particul logo, font or colour cannot be translated easily from a brochure to a website.

If you have chosen to use one of the standard templates, we can usually make the graphics available so you can arrange for stationery or business cards to be printed. Obviously if you have obtained your own graphics, these will be available for use.

Preparing Content

Written by Mark Matheson

Content is the key to any good website.  Getting the initial content right will also help you establish a good site map.

We suggest that this process should be done in a Microsoft Word document, with each page in the document dedicated to one page in the website.  Start with your home page and work out.

As an example, imagine this as a likely site map: -

  • Home
  • Products/Services
    • Product 1
    • Product 2
    • Service 1
    • Service 2
  • About Us – What you do, contact details, your location, a Google map to your office, etc.
    • Latest News
    • Testimonials
    • FAQ’s
    • Photo Gallery
    • Links – Complimentary sites or friends site.  Remember, keep them relevant to your business
  • Blog
  • Your Account - No content required here.  It’s restricted to registered members only
    • Members only page 1
    • Members only page 2

You can modify this as you see fit, but we may suggest some alternatives to get it to flow properly, or fit within the website structure.  Include the site map as the first page of your document.  The second page should include a small blurb about you, as the author of most of the articles, which will appear when people drill into an article.

Other features you might like to consider include: -

  • Newsletter, with the ability to sign up for the newsletter without being a member of the site (an example is on most of my sites)
  • Links to Twitter and LinkedIn, or other social network pages
  • A Facebook Fan Page Like section
  • Rotating pictures linked to pages or a Latest News module linked to articles
  • Online Support Forums
  • Online booking service

For each page, you should include all the text you want.  Each page should have a headline image, just like a newspaper, while the others will be shown as an image gallery.  You can include video if you have any as well.  In your document, just put placeholders for the images and video.  When you are ready to deliver the content to us, we’ll arrange a place for you to upload all the images, video and your content document so we can access these.
