IE6 - Why isn't it dead yet?

IE6 - Why isn't it dead yet?

One of the constant battles when designing websites is to balance one's desire to use the latest website technologies against the user's possibly out-dated browser technology.

Internet Explorer is a prime example of this.  Within many corporate environments, Windows XP is still the predominant operating system, and within that, Internet Explorer 6 can still be found as the prescribed Internet browser.  This is despite the fact that Microsoft, along with many website designers, has discontinued support for it.

Climbing K2

Climbing K2

Learning a new piece of software can often be as challenging as climbing a mountain.  In this case it is an aptly named product called K2 from JoomlaWorks.

Wanting to add extra functionality to my websites, I researched possible solutions to enable me to include items such as: -

  • Comments
  • Rating Systems
  • Image Galleries
  • Product Catalogues
  • Blogs - including Tag Clouds
  • Nested Categories

Joomla! has been my CMS of choice for several years.  Its power, flexibility, extensive developer community and ease of use made its choice relatively simple.

However it became apparent early on that it's management of article content, limiting them to Categories and Sections, and with little else available, meant that the use of a 3rd-party Content Customisation Kit (CCK) was virtually mandatory for any website that you develop using Joomla!.
